GPT-6 Turns ChatGPT Into an App. Apple Should Be Worried.

OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 Sol to paid ChatGPT users and GPT-6 Luna to free users, together with Intelligent UI. Answers now come with charts, buttons and tools. We think it is a real shift, and a warning for Apple and Siri.

Key takeaways

  • GPT-6 Sol is rolling out to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise; GPT-6 Luna comes to Free and Go users.
  • Intelligent UI lets answers include charts, buttons, forms and small tools like calculators.
  • Our view: a real shift, not just a prettier wrapper, and a clear warning for Siri.

GPT-6 has arrived in ChatGPT, and the answers no longer look like answers. As reported by Marcus Mendes at 9to5Mac, OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 Sol to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers, while GPT-6 Luna starts reaching Free and Go users a day later.

Both models are tuned for everyday conversation. And both come with something OpenAI calls Intelligent UI. I use AI tools every day, for research and for checking facts, and I think this is one of the biggest changes to ChatGPT since it launched.

What Intelligent UI actually does

What GPT-6 brings to ChatGPT

  • GPT-6 Sol: Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise
  • GPT-6 Luna: Free and Go users
  • Intelligent UI: charts, buttons, forms, interactive diagrams
  • Tools in chat: calculators, bill splitters, games
  • Answers while thinking: the response grows as reasoning continues

Until now, a chatbot answer was a wall of text. With Intelligent UI, ChatGPT decides the best format for each answer. A comparison can appear side by side. An explanation can become an interactive diagram. A data question can come back as a chart.

ChatGPT can also build small tools right inside the conversation: calculators, bill splitters, even simple games. And when plain text is the best answer, it still gives plain text.

For me, this is a real revolution, not a prettier wrapper. Every year these tools save more work. And it is not only the format that changes. The intelligence underneath gets better too: models think longer, understand what you really mean, answer to the end, and can actually debate with you.

GPT-6 Sol vs GPT-6 Luna: is the split fair?

Paying users get GPT-6 Sol. Free users get GPT-6 Luna. Some people will call that unfair. I do not.

Servers for hundreds of millions of people cost billions. People who pay are funding the development of these models, so it is fair that they get more. And free GPT-6 Luna is still a huge gift.

The only risk is for OpenAI itself. When a free user says GPT-6 is nothing special, they are usually talking about Luna, not Sol.

Answering while it thinks: speed or risk?

OpenAI says ChatGPT can now start answering while it is still thinking, adding information as the reasoning continues instead of waiting for the end.

Here I am more careful. I would rather wait a little and get a good answer than get a fast one. The first generation of chatbots often ignored the question and answered whatever they wanted. Waiting is what fixed that. Today, mistakes still happen, but nothing like the beginning, and the models learn fast.

What GPT-6 means for Apple and Siri

This is the part Apple should read twice. ChatGPT is already built into Siri and Apple Intelligence on iPhone, iPad and Mac. That is nice for users, and it is honest of Apple to admit it needed outside help. But it also shows where Cupertino stands.

Apple did invest in AI, but late and without enough courage. Now OpenAI, Anthropic and Google keep moving forward, and Siri still depends on a partner for its smartest answers. I wrote before about the tension in Apple vs OpenAI, and this launch makes the gap even more visible.

Today, a normal user does almost everything with AI. Without strong AI of its own, Apple cannot move forward. With an iPhone 17 Pro and an Apple Watch Series 12, the smartest thing on my devices is still not made by Apple. That should worry Cupertino.

ChatGPT, Claude, Meta Muse or Grok Bot: who is winning?

The AI app race is brutal right now. Meta Muse has been the number one free iPhone app in the US for weeks and just came to iPad. Grok Bot got an upgrade built on Claude. Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5.

Personally, I work mostly with Claude today. It pushes back instead of saying everything I do is great, it sticks to its sources, and it opens the browser to read before it answers. I liked ChatGPT for a long time, and GPT-6 with Intelligent UI is a real reason to go back and test it properly.

In the end, I think the winner will be whoever sits closest to the Siri button. And right now, that is still OpenAI. If you want more control over Apple’s own AI, see how to remove Apple Intelligence on Mac.

Our Take

Intelligent UI is a wrapper, but a wrapper around a smarter brain. That is why it matters.

GPT-6 Sol for paying users and GPT-6 Luna for free users is a fair split. Speed while thinking is nice, but I still prefer a correct answer over a fast one.

The real story is Apple. Siri leans on ChatGPT while OpenAI, Anthropic and Google race ahead. We all need to learn how to work with AI properly now, because we already know where the future is going.
